Coming off an overtime defeat against Mexico, the United States played a friendly against Costa Rica in order to prepare themselves for the upcoming World Cup qualifier matches. The game was set, 7 pm, Red Bull Arena. Looking to bounce back from a tough loss, the U.S. wanted to be able to prove themselves. Despite the fact Klinsmann sent back nine starting players in order to free up some space for the younger players, this match was anything but a friendly. With a total of eight yellow cards being awarded during the 90 minutes, tensions were high throughout. At the end of the night, Costa Rica came away with a 1-0 victory, leaving with bragging rights, and leaving many U.S. fans disappointed.
